Mah Jongg with the KFNV
Are you interested in playing Mah Jongg here in King Farm? Maybe you’re an experienced player looking for a game in the neighborhood. Or you haven’t yet played Mah Jongg but would like to learn. Or you’ve played a few times and want more practice. King Farm Neighbors Village (KFNV) is considering adding a monthly Mah Jongg game to its activities. If you’d be interested in playing, please reply to the KFNV at kfnvinfo@gmail.com or call the Operations Coordinator at 301-799-8104, providing your name, email address, experience level, and preference for an evening game or daytime game. The game will be open to all residents of King Farm. Membership in the KFNV is not required but is recommended; and membership is free and an easy process. Events
The King Farm Neighbors Village (KFNV) has the following activities scheduled for September and October.
- Please meet up with the KFNV Walking Club Monday through Friday at 3:45 pm sharp at the park across from The Fontina Grille at 801 Pleasant Dr, Rockville, MD 20850. If you haven’t joined before and plan to, please send a message to kfnvinfo@gmail.com letting the Walking Club know you want to be on the Walking Club Mailing List. The Walking Club does not meet when the weather is inclement.
- On Tuesday September 29, 2026, the KFNV Metro Club will visit the National Museum of Asian Art at 1050 Independence Ave. SW, Washington, DC 20560. We will view a special exhibit: From the Louvre: Masterpieces of Islamic Art
The particulars of the visit are:
- The KFNV Metro club will meet at the Shady Grove Metro at 9:20 am and take the train at 9:30 am and head to Metro Center Station, then change trains for Smithsonian Station. The museum is a short walk from the station.
- After touring the museum, you are welcome to join the group for lunch at a nearby café or at the Moongate Cafe in the National Museum of Asian Art, or bring your own lunch.
- Metro back with the group or on your own back and return to the Shady Grove station at approximately 2:30 pm.
- The KFNV will host Coffee & Conversation on September 30, 2026 from 10:00-11:30 am in the Community Center. The topic will be: What was your most exciting travel experience? Please feel free to bring your travel photos.
- On Thursday, October 1, 2026, the KFNV Movie Club will meet in the King Farm Community Center from 2:00-3:00 pm to review the film, The Woman in Cabin 10, a 2025 mystery/drama based upon Ruth Ware’s novel and starring Keira Knightley. While on board a luxury yacht, a journalist witnesses a woman being thrown overboard, only to be told that it didn’t happen. The action revolves around Knight as the journalist searching for the truth while putting her own life in danger. This film from Netflix delivers a fast-past thriller in a beautiful setting.
- On Thursday, October 8, 2026 from 12:30-2:00 pm, the KFNV Book Club will meet in the King Farm Community Center to discuss the 2023 novel, Absolution by Alice McDermott. This novel set in the early days of the Vietnam War in 1963 before the escalation of the conflict focuses on the wives of the officers serving as technical advisors and their interactions with the local people.
Services
The KFNV continues to support King Farm residents with its community services: transportation to appointments, simple household tasks, friendly phone calls/texts, and friendly visits. Please feel free to avail yourself of all the community services that the KFNV offers. Also, please note that if you are in doubt about whether a task can be accomplished by one of the KFNV volunteers, go ahead and fill out the service form on the KFNV website. Our Operations Team will get back to you to determine if the task is under our umbrella of tasks. Finally, please note that services are open to KFNV members only; however, membership is free and an easy process. Contacting the KFNV
KFNV membership is required for most club and group events and all services provided. Please remember that membership is as easy as filling out an on-line or mail-in form; for the only KFNV membership requirement is King Farm residency. We are a multi-generational Village; therefore, the KFNV welcomes all adult King Farm residents of all ages.
Although there is no fee to become a KFNV member, the KFNV does, however, accept and welcome donations; for these donations help defray the cost of KFNV services and events.
