The History of King Farm

Before there was King Farm, the name was Irvington Farm. W. Lawson King purchased this land along with the land from three other farms to create Irvington Farm.  After King’s death in 1985, the property was foreclosed and was purchased by developers, King Farm Associates, then annexed by the City of Rockville in 1995.  This purchase would be the beginnings of the transformation of 450 acres of dairy farmland into a large-scale mixed-used community.

Today, King Farm is an award-winning neo-traditional community set on 450 acres in the heart of Montgomery County, Maryland. The community provides quick access to the Metrorail system and is located just 18 miles outside of Washington, DC. King Farm is an inter-generational community where the charmingly traditional real estate includes single-family homes, condominiums, townhouses, land for custom home building, and senior-living facilities. Residents enjoy amenities including walking trails, two outdoor swimming pools, numerous tot lots, a fitness studio, and more.

King Farm is comprised of 395 single-family homes, 892 townhomes (76 units currently under construction), and 1,044 apartments bringing the current number of residential units to 3,253 with approximately 9,000 residents.  There are also approximately one million square feet of office space, a retail shopping center, two City of Rockville Parks, common area “pocket parks”, ponds, trails, and other conveniences.
