King Farm Annual Election Results

The King Farm Citizens Assembly held its Annual Meeting of the Membership and Election virtually on Wednesday, April 27th, 2022.  KFCA President, Barry Jackson, presented the State of King Farm report; KFCA Treasurer, Ric Ricciardi, provided a brief presentation on the current annual budget; one (1) Board of Trustees member was installed, and the KFCA President was re-elected.

The King Farm Board of Trustees and KFCA President election results were tallied and certified. King Farm residents cast their votes and the vote tallies are below. 

  • 337 votes cast for the KFCA President Position
  • 336 votes cast for the Board of Trustees Position

There continues to be many projects that the Board and President take on as the community continues to mature, and these candidates are eager to continue to make King Farm a place that all residents are proud to call home.

Please Note: Due to the vacant seat on the Board, the Board of Trustees will appoint a 5th member to the Board. 


It’s Food Truck Friday

It’s Food Truck Friday, so head to the Saddle Ridge Community Center at 300 Saddle Ridge Circle between 5:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. where Giacomo’s Brick Oven Pizza  will be set up and ready to serve you!

King Farm Movie on the Lawn Tomorrow – Saturday, April 30th

Bring a blanket or a lawn chair as King Farm movies on the lawn returns with this year’s Oscar winner for best animated film Disney’s Encanto playing on the big movie screen tomorrow, Saturday, April 30, 2022.

The movie, rated PG, will start promptly at 8:30 p.m. on the Saddle Ridge Circle lawn area adjacent to the Saddle Ridge Community Center (300 Saddle Ridge Circle). In the event of rain, the movie will be rescheduled to a later date.

King Farm Pool & Amenities Update:

Saddle Ridge Pool & Bailey’s Commons Pool:

The King Farm Pools are scheduled to open on Saturday, May 28th, 2022 (weather permitting). Barring any mandated changes by the City, County, or State, the pools will operate under normal operations this season. Liability waivers, masks, social distancing and reservations will no longer be required.

*Please note – lifeguards and other patrons may opt to continue to social distance or wear masks, so please be considerate. 

Fitness Center, Community Room, and Management Office: 

As of April 1, 2022, King Farm community amenities reopened without COVID-19 restrictions. The Saddle Ridge Community Room returned to a maximum capacity of 100 persons (previously 50) and the fitness room resumed normal capacity and hours (4am-11pm).

The on-site King Farm Management Office is open for walk-ins. However, resident appointments are still preferred during regular business hours (Mon.-Thurs. 8:30am-5:00pm / Fri. 8:30am-2:00pm).  Please call 301-987- 0122 or e-mail management@kingfarm.org for any assistance.

*staff members and contractors may opt to continue to social distance or wear masks, so please be considerate. 


King Farm Fitness Center – Friendly Reminder

The fitness center is open again under regular operating hours and capacity (Daily, 4:00 am -11:00 pm) and we would like to remind residents of a few tips to ensure an enjoyable visit:

  • Please do not open gym windows! The Fitness Center has heat and air conditioning, so opening windows is not necessary nor permitted.
    • If you have a concern about the thermostat, please contact Management during regular office hours by phone (301) 987-0122 or email at management@kingfarm.org, and we would be happy to assist! 
  • Wipe down equipment after each use! Please be courteous to other patrons and wipe down equipment after each use. Treat the fitness center like you would treat your home and do not leave any personal items, trash, etc. behind. 
  • Do not tamper with machines/equipment. Report any damaged machinery/equipment to Management immediately! Please do not try to repair it yourself. 
  • No food or drinks, except for bottled water. 
  • Please wear appropriate fitness attire. No bare feet, sandals, or boots allowed. 
  • Be courteous and respectful! Please treat your neighbors with respect while using the fitness center.

Police & Safety Conversation with the RCPD – Webinar Event

King Farm Citizens Assembly (KFCA) President, Barry Jackson, and the External Affairs committee hosted a virtual webinar event, Police & Safety Conversation with the RCPD, on Wednesday, April 6th, 2022.  The Chief of Police for RCPD, Victor Brito, spoke during the event and he and his team provided the community with valuable insights regarding current crime statistics and other important topics surrounding the safety of King Farm.

County & City Updates:

Annual Holocaust remembrance — The public is invited to watch the 29th annual federal inter-agency annual Holocaust remembrance program, “Courage Facing Evil,” on Thursday, April 28, 11:30 am-1 pm, at www.epa.gov/live. No registration required.  

Two Holocaust survivors will be the guest speakers: Susan Warsinger and Rachel (Rae) Goldfarb, longtime volunteers at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. Dr. Edna Friedberg, Historian, U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, will moderate the program. Introductory remarks will include statements from Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen and Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues at the U.S. Department of State, Ellen Germain. MCPS finalizes deal to bring police back into schools —  The Montgomery County Public Schools school board announced Tuesday that MCPS and the police department have signed a memorandum of understanding that will bring law enforcement back into schools. The school system pulled school resource officers (police) out of school buildings last year. Read More.

Free adoption during National Pet Week — The Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center is waiving adoption fees for all animals during National Pet Week, May 1-7. In addition, anyone who submits an adoption application between May 1 and May 7 will receive a voucher that is valid through May 21 for a fee-waived adoption. Interested adopters should visit the adoption center website to see the available pets and to get detailed information on adoption. You can make an appointment to see the animals by filling out the application online, calling the shelter at 240-773-5900 during business hours, or going to the center. Read More.


King Farm Neighbors Village News (KFNV)

EVENTS:

We’re Live and In-Person!  on May 1st, the King Farm Neighbors Village (KFNV) will relaunch its community services program with the following services:  

  1. Transportation to appointments,
  2. Friendly phone calls, 
  3. Friendly visits, and  
  4. One new service-simple household tasks.  

As with KFNV services in the past, services are provided to KFNV members only. Please see below for how to easily join the KFNV.   

Besides the resumption of services, the KFNV also will host the following events in May:  

  1. Movie Club on Thursday, May 5th from 2:00 -3:00 pm where the movie Being the Ricardos, starring Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem will be reviewed; and
  2. Book Club on Thursday, May 12th from 12:30 – 2:00 pm where Book Club participants will discuss the historical fiction novel, The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes, which centers around the Packhorse Librarians of Kentucky during the depression.

Please note:  These activities will be presented in a hybrid fashion—i.e., both in-person and virtually. Specifically, the KFNV has reserved the King Farm Community Center, 300 Saddle Ridge Circle, Rockville, MD 20850 for these in-person meetings.  In accordance with policy adopted by the KFNV Board, people attending KFNV sponsored, in-person events must be vaccinated per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID recommendations. Wearing a mask is optional. For those unable to join in-person, the KFNV will offer a Zoom option.


The last two events for May are: 

  1. Coffee and Conversation on Wednesday, May 18th from 10:00 – 11:30 am. The topic will be: Childhood to Adult Foods and Traditions — What foods or traditions did you enjoy as a child?   Did you continue with these foods and traditions as an adult?  How have your tastes and interests changed? This event will be held virtually only via Zoom; and
  2. A perfect way to unwind…the KFNV in-person, social event —Nibble and Sip– on Thursday, May 19th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the King Farm Community Center. The KFNV invites all King Farm community members (21 and over) to this wine and cheese reception as membership is not required for attendance. As with the hybrid events and in accordance with policy adopted by the KFNV Board, people attending KFNV sponsored, in-person events must be vaccinated per the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID recommendations. Wearing a mask is optional.
