Summer Concert This Saturday Night
King Farm’s Summer Concert Series continues this Saturday, July 9, 2022 with a community favorite, Thunderball will be rocking the lawn from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at 300 Saddle Ridge Circle.
The Screamin’ Geese Swim Team will be selling food during the concert – so come on out and show your support! Grab your lawn chairs, friends and family for a fun night of music on the lawn.
Rockville Mayor & Council to Discuss Future Uses of King Farm Farmstead – King Farm Task Force Seeks Community Support to Oppose Major Impacts

The City of Rockville Mayor and Council plan to discuss possible future uses of the King Farm Farmstead on Monday, July 18th, which may have a significant impact on the future look, feel, and activity within our community.
The King Farm Community Garden, located on the historic Farmstead Park, has formed a Task Force to save the Farmstead and Garden, and hopes to work with the Mayor and Council to find uses for the site that will not change the essential nature of the Farmstead and historic district.
The city commissioned a report to identify future uses of the site which could generate money to pay for rehabilitating and maintaining the farm buildings. (A copy of the report can be found on page 36 of the 4/4/22 meeting agenda – via this link – https://www.rockvillemd.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_04042022-6553). The report focused on revenue-generating uses for the Farmstead. The Task Force is concerned that commercial uses would fundamentally change the ability of Rockville citizens to enjoy the Farmstead for recreation. The park is King Farm’s only permanently designated park, as Mattie Stepanek and King Farm parks are designated as possible future school sites.
According to the report, most revenue generating uses would require an additional parking lot to be built. An additional parking lot is suggested for the green space between the Dairy Barns and Grand Champion Drive. This could require relocation of the current community garden away from the Farmstead […].

Exercise Your Right To Vote through July 19th
The Maryland Primary Election is quickly approaching and early voting has begun. Below is some helpful voting information to get your ballot cast. If you desire to vote you have to do so by July 19!
King Farm Voter’s Guide – Take a look at the King Farm Citizen Assembly’s Voter’s Guide (published in the June edition of the Chronicle) for information about some of the candidates running in the election. We asked candidates questions related to King Farm. Some candidates responded – read their answers here.
League of Women Voters’ nonpartisan Voters’ Guide is posted online and available at libraries and community centers. Voters’ Guides are available in Spanish online as well.
You have three options for voting (see the LWVMC website for detailed instructions and deadlines):
- Early Voting (Thursday, July 7 to Thursday, July 14) – Vote in person from 7am-8pm at any Early Voting Center. Visit 777vote.org for locations.
- Vote by Mail – Vote from wherever you are, at a time that is convenient for you. Any registered voter in Maryland can vote by mail. This is a two-step process:
- Apply for a mail-in ballot by July 12. If you didn’t receive an application: visit voterservices.elections.maryland.gov, text VBM to 77788, or call 240-777-8550.
NOTE: Have your ballot delivered by mail to reduce Board of Elections labor. New this election is a permanent vote-by-mail option. - Vote your ballot and sign the return envelope. Return your ballot by July 19 in a secure MoCo Ballot Drop Box or by mail, or hand deliver it to an Early Voting Center, your assigned precinct polling place, or the MoCo Board of Elections.
- Apply for a mail-in ballot by July 12. If you didn’t receive an application: visit voterservices.elections.maryland.gov, text VBM to 77788, or call 240-777-8550.
- Ride On & Metro Bus Routes available to take you to Early Voting Centers – Routes.
- Primary Election Day (Tuesday, July 19) – Vote in person from 7am-8pm at your assigned precinct polling place only. The Board of Elections will notify all voters of their assigned polling place, which may have changed.
Mattie Stepanek Peace Day Gathering – July 17th, 2022

King Farm Neighbors Village News (KFNV)
The King Farm Neighbors Village (KFNV) began its July activities yesterday in the King Farm Community Center and virtually with a discussion by the KFNV Movie Club of the movie King Richard, starring Will Smith. Future KFNV events for July are:
Looking forward to July, the KFNV has the following events scheduled:
- On Thursday, July 14th from 12:30-2:00 pm, the KFNV Book Club will review the book The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead. This novel is based upon the real story of a sadistic and cruel reform school that operated in Florida for 111 years and devastated the lives of thousands of children; and
- On Wednesday, July 20th from 10:00 to 11:30 am, the KFNV Coffee and Conversation group will answer the question: What have you learned from the pandemic, and should we do differently in the future? This is an especially apt topic for the KFNV Coffee and Conversation participants because this will be the first meeting since 2020 that the Coffee and Conversation participants will be meeting in person; and finally,
- On Thursday, July 28th from 7:00 to 8:30 pm in the King Farm community center, the KFNV will host as its highlight event – “Bingo in the Center”— where the KFNV invites all members of the King Farm community, especially bingo enthusiasts, to join the KFNV for this inaugural bingo event. You will not only get an opportunity to hone your bingo skills, but also to mingle and converse with your fellow King Farmers. We hope to see many of our fellow King Farm residents at this event; but since space is limited in the community center, we will be required to limit the number of participants. Therefore, if you’re interested in attending, please reserve your spot as soon as possible. Finally, if you need transportation to the Community Center for this event, please contact the KFNV Operations Coordinator at kfnvinfo@gmail.com, or leave a voicemail at (301) 799-8104. Please note that although “Bingo in the Center” is open to all King Farm community members, the KFNV can only fulfill transportation requests for those that are KFNV members. Please see below for how to easily become a KFNV member.
Please note that the KFNV Book Club, Movie Club, and Coffee and Conversation will meet in hybrid form—both in-person and virtually. Specifically, the KFNV has reserved the King Farm Community Center, 300 Saddle Ridge Circle, Rockville, MD 20850 for these in-person meetings. In accordance with policy adopted by the KFNV Board of Directors, people attending KFNV sponsored, in-person events must be vaccinated per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID recommendations. Wearing a mask is optional. For those unable to join in-person, the KFNV will offer a Zoom option. Finally, the KFNV offers transportation to any of its monthly meetings for KFNV members. KFNV SERVICES:
The KFNV is continuing to build its community services program with:
- Transportation to appointments,
- Friendly phone calls,
- Friendly visits, and
- One new service – simple household tasks.
The KFNV has given members rides to various appointments and has successfully fulfilled its first simple household task. To schedule any of the above services or for questions, please contact KFNV or complete the online form. Please note, services are available to KFNV members only.

Most KFNV monthly events require membership to participate; however, membership is a free and and easy process. To join, you will need to fill out either the online or mail-in form and no fee is required. The KFNV does, however, accept and welcome donations; for these donations help defray the cost of services and events.
