Food Truck Friday Night

It’s Food Truck Friday night, so head to the Saddle Ridge Community Center at 300 Saddle Ridge Circle. Due to pending rain storms this evening, the truck will be parked from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. We are welcoming a new truck to our line up, Catalyst Hot Dogs is bringing those classic Jersey style dogs to the Farm. The truck will be parked around the Circle ready to sell and serve to you. See the list below for the upcoming schedule of when your favorite food trucks will be rolling into King Farm the rest of this month:

Martin Luther King Jr. Day – Monday, January 18th, 2021

In observance of MLK Day, the Management office will be closed on Monday, January 18th. We will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, January 19th from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.

Join the City of Rockville 2021 MLK Jr. Virtual Celebration:

Rockville’s 49th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration will take place from 12:00 – 1:30 pm on Monday, January 18th. The celebration, with a theme of “In Courageous Pursuit of Victory,” will be conducted online via Webex. Visit www.rockvillemd.gov/mlk to learn how to join live. Those unable to join can view a recording on the webpage and on the city’s YouTube channel in the days following the event. Joyce Ladner will deliver a keynote address sharing her experiences as a civil rights activist and her pioneering study of race, gender and class. She will join a panel of educators, activists and advocates from Rockville, and members of the city’s Human Rights Commission, the event’s host. The ceremony will include the presentation of the Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Award to a student who lives in, or attends school in, Rockville and has worked to fulfill King’s dream, and the F. Michael Taff Award to an individual, organization or business that has helped to improve the lives of people with disabilities.

City of Rockville Volunteer Opportunities:

Martin Luther King Jr. Day marks the 26th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the civil rights leader’s life and legacy. Dr. King recognized the power of service. He famously said, “Everyone can be great because everybody can serve.” Observing Martin Luther King Jr. Day through service is a way to begin each year with a commitment to making our community a better place.

This year, the city is sponsoring a week where community members will participate in directed, socially distanced, volunteer activities and simple acts of kindness in the community.

City of Rockville Continues to Collect Christmas Trees

Rockville is collecting Christmas trees as part of its regular recycling collection throughout the month of January. The trees will be taken to the Montgomery County Recycling Center, where they will become mulch. The mulch at the recycling center is available year-round and can be picked up, for free, at 16105 Frederick Rd.

Residents should place cut trees at the curb for pick-up on regular recycling days after removing all ornaments and metals, lighting wires, stands and decorations, including tinsel.

Trees should not be bagged.
Unwanted artificial trees should be dismantled and placed in the gray refuse cart for regular weekly collection.
Artificial trees that are too large to fit in the cart can be collected by appointment as one of six bulk collections allowed per year, OR taken to the Montgomery County transfer station.

King Farm Management Office – Temporarily Closed

To protect the health and safety of the office staff and residents, The Management Office (Saddle Ridge Community Center) remains closed to residents. We do not allow walk-ins and we are seeing residents by appointment only at this time. Please call or email to schedule an appointment and wear a mask upon arrival to your appointment.

Events for the End of January 2021

King Farm Neighbors Village (KFNV) has two upcoming virtual events to end a very busy January 2021. These events are:

1. KFNV Coffee and Conversation – January 27, 2021, at 10:00 am.
The topic will be what you want to accomplish in 2021, especially what dreams you have post-pandemic. (Note: This is a change in date from the third Wednesday of the month that Coffee and Conversation is usually held).

2. The KFNV January Highlight Event – Thursday, January 28, 2021, from 3 – 5 pm.

At this first highlight event of the year, the KFNV will facilitate a pictorial presentation on the evolving history of the city of Rockville. Specifically, Ralph Buglass [pronounced: BU – glis] will narrate a virtual Zoom presentation entitled, Rockville: A Pictorial History. Mr. Buglass is a speaker for Montgomery History, the county’s historical society, as well as a volunteer researcher for Peerless Rockville, the city’s historic preservation organization. With Peerless Rockville, Mr. Buglass recently published a pictorial history of Rockville as part of the nationwide “Images of America” series. Mr. Buglass’ presentation on January 28th will include many photos from this book. Mr. Buglass has spoken and taught on a variety of local history topics at various lifelong learning programs around the area. He is a Montgomery County native, graduate of Winston Churchill High School, has a BA in American history from Cornell, and a Master’s Degree in journalism from American University. The KFNV cordially invites all members of the King Farm community to this event, as KFNV membership is not required for virtual attendance to this presentation.

King Farm Neighbors Village Board of Director News:

The KFNV is now soliciting individuals to serve as members of the Board of Directors. The Board is a volunteer managing entity for the KFNV and works to develop, implement, and sustain activities that support the KFNV mission to help King Farm residents who would like to remain in their homes throughout their lives and age in place. The KFNV coordinates services such as friendly visits, check-in phone calls, social events, health and safety events, and transportation. Board members must be residents of King Farm and members of the KFNV. We are seeking individuals who are interested in the KFNV and its mission, who have experience germane to serving on the KFNV Board, and who are willing to commit a level of effort necessary to complete the duties of a KFNV Board member. Term of service for Board members is two years, beginning at the Annual Meeting held in April of each year. If you are interested in joining the KFNV Board, please send a statement of interest and a brief bio to kfnvinfo@gmail.com; and if you would like information about the KFNV, please view the KFNV website at www.kfnv.org.

KFNV COVID-19 Information:

In its effort to inform its members, supporters, and volunteers about the Covid-19 pandemic, the KFNV is directing its community to the following website that provides up-to-date information on the roll-out of the Coronavirus vaccinations in Montgomery County: https://montgomerycountymd.gov/covid19/vaccine/. Through this website, you can sign up via text or email for up-to-date vaccination information.

Game Give Away:

KFNV has the non-competitive board game “Making Memories Together” for free distribution. This game was designed for the purpose of honoring and communicating with an older family member, and it includes the exercise of surveying favorite family photos. It is especially appropriate for those encountering the challenges of cognitive changes, and the game has earned first place in a competition focused on the use of art in health care.

For most of our monthly events, membership is required, but membership is free and as easy as filling out an on-line or mail-in form. We do, however, accept donations that help defray the cost of services and events like the successful Bonbons and Beer virtual event that was held in December.
