Events

The King Farm Neighbors Village (KFNV) had a very busy last week with three events, including a well-attended Annual Meeting. The KFNV thanks all King Farmers who participated in its Annual Meeting.

Looking forward to April, the KFNV has a full schedule of events.

  1. The KFNV Walking Club continues its daily jaunts on Monday-Thursday at 4 pm, except in the case of inclement weather. The group meets in the park across from The Fontina Grille.
  • On Thursday, April 3, 2025 from 2:00-3:00 pm, the KFNV Movie Club will discuss the film, Joy: The Birth of IVF, a 2024 drama based upon a true story. The film follows three pioneering British scientists in the 1960s and 1970s and their struggles to against all odds develop In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).
  • On Thursday, April 10, 2025 from 12:30-2:00 pm, the KFNV Book Club will review the novel, The Women by Kristin Hannah. As Bonnie Garmus, author of Lessons in Chemistry reviews, “The Women” (s)tuns with sacrifice; uplifts with heroism…an important, long overdue tribute to the brave women nurses who served in Vietnam.”
  •  On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, the KFNV will host Games Night from 7:00-9:00 pm in the Community Center.  Come out and enjoy some competitive fun with your King Farm neighbors after you’ve filed your taxes!  You do not have to be a member of the KFNV to join in the fun. The KFNV will provide various board games, but you are welcome to bring your own game(s) as well. In addition, please bring your own snacks and drinks to nibble on and sip as you play your favorite board game.
  • On Thursday, April 17, 2025 from 1:00-3:00 pm, the KFNV Friends will meet for lunch at Botanero Restaurant, 800 Pleasant Drive.  You do not have to be a KFNV member to participate in this luncheon. This is a KFNV Friends Club meetup, and everyone is responsible to pay for their own lunch. Come out and enjoy lunch and perhaps meet some new King Farmers.
  • On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, Coffee and Conversation participants will meet in the King Farm Community Center from 10:00-11:30 am to discuss the topic: Who is your favorite sports figure and/or team?
  • On Monday, April 28, 2025 at 10:00 am in the King Farm Community Center, Susan Fullenbaum, a member of the KFNV Events Committee will lead a discussion on setting up a new KFNV club: the Metro Club. Participants in this club will take the metro to explore DC museums and sculpture gardens, including docent-led museum tours as well as lunch afterwards.  If you would be interested in participating in such excursions, please attend this informational meeting on April 28th.  The KFNV is looking forward to seeing and hearing your views on this new KFNV club.
  • On Wednesday, April 30, 2025 from 1:00-2:00 pm in the King Farm Community Center, the KFNV will host its monthly highlight event: ABCs of Staying Safe Online (and on the Telephone). Erin Byrne, Director of Education and Community Outreach for TechMoxie, LLC will provide information on how to keep oneself safe online. With the numerous scams online and via the phone, the KFNV hopes this presentation will provide King Farmers with important and timely information. All King Farmers are invited to this highlight event. You don’t have to be a member of the KFNV to attend. Please note this event is being held on a Wednesday rather than on a Thursday as is the KFNV’s usual schedule for highlight events.

Services

The KFNV continues to support King Farm residents with its community services: transportation to appointments, simple household tasks, friendly phone calls/texts, and friendly visits. Please feel free to avail yourself of all of the community services that the KFNV offers. If you are in doubt about whether a task could be performed by one of the KFNV volunteers, go ahead and fill out the service form on the KFNV website. Our Operations Team will get back to you to determine if the task is under our umbrella of tasks. Also, please note that services are open to KFNV members only; however, membership is free and an easy process. See below on how to contact the KFNV to schedule any of the services or with any questions that you may have about the services as well as how to become a KFNV member.

Contacting the KFNV

For most of the KFNV monthly events as well as the services, membership is required; but membership is as easy as filling out an on-line or mail-in form with residency in the King Farm community being the only membership requirement.  We are a multi-generational Village; therefore, the KFNV welcomes all adult King Farm residents of all ages.

Although there is no fee to become a KFNV member, the KFNV does, however, accept and welcome donations; for these donations help defray the cost of KFNV services and events.

For information on how to register for any of the above events, to request a service or a ride, to become a KFNV member or a volunteer, or to make a donation, please contact the Operations Coordinator by calling (301) 799-8104 to  leave a voicemail,  emailing the KFNV at kfnvinfo@gmail.com , or viewing the KFNV website at  www.kfnv.org.
