The King Farm Neighbors Village (KFNV) is ending August with an excursion to the Renwick Gallery on Monday, August 25, 2025.  Then, in September, the KFNV will host its full schedule of monthly events and activities. Below are the August and September events.

  1. The KFNV Walking Club continues its daily jaunts Monday-Thursday at 4 pm, except in the case of inclement weather. The group meets in the park across from The Fontina Grille.
  2. On Monday August 25, 2025, the KFNV Metro Club will visit the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC.
The particulars of the visit are:
  3. The KFNV Metro Club will meet on the Shady Grove Metro platform at 10:30am to take the 10:39am train to Farragut North (Red line), which is a 10-minute walk to the Renwick.
  4. At the Renwick, we will explore the new exhibit “State Fairs: Growing American Craft“. This exhibition is the first major showcase dedicated to the contributions of artists to the tradition of state fairs in the US. It will feature over 240 artworks dating from the mid-19th century to the present.
  5. At noon, there will be a walk-in docent tour, we plan to take.
  6. Afterwards, we’ll be on our own to have lunch with many choices nearby.
  7. Metro back with a group or on your own to Shady Grove.
  8. Please note that you must be a KFNV member to join this excursion; however, joining the KFNV is free and is open to all adult residents of King Farm. Please see below under “Contacting the KFNV” for the easy process to become a KFNV member.
  9. On Tuesday, September 4, 2025, from 2-3:00 pm, the KFNV Movie Club will meet in the King Farm Community Center to review the film, Nonnas, a movie inspired by a true story about a restaurant on Staten Island, New York where grandmothers (nonnas) of different cultures cook their favorite recipes. Sounds like a delicious movie. Mangia, Mangia!
  10. On Tuesday, September 9, 2025 from 7:00-8:30 pm, the KFNV will host Games Night in the King Farm Community Center.  The KFNV will provide various board games, but you are welcome to bring your own game(s) as well. In addition, please bring your own snacks and drinks to nibble on and sip as you play your favorite board game.
  11. On Thursday, September 11, 2025 from 12:30-2:00 pm, the KFNV Book Club members will meet in the King Farm Community Center to review the novel, Tell Me Everything by Elizabeth Strout. This novel reacquaints Strout’s readers with favorite characters from the author’s previous books but within a murder mystery. It is a Goodreads Choice Award with a score of 4/5.
  12. On Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 1:00-3:00 pm, The KFNV Friends will meet for lunch at Nagoya Sushi, 402 King Farm Boulevard, Rockville, MD.  This is a KFNV Friends Club meetup, and everyone is responsible to pay for their own lunch. Come out and lunch with your King Farm friends.
  13. On Monday, September 22, 2025 from 10:00-11:30 am, KFNV Coffee and Conversation participants will meet in the King Farm Community Center to offer their opinions on the topic: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?  Come out and start your week with coffee with your friends.
  14. On Thursday, September 25, 2025 from 4:00-5:00 pm, the KFNV will host its monthly highlight event in the King Farm Community Center with a presentation by Mr. Rob Scheer founder of Comfort Cases, an organization right here in Gaithersburg that provides filled backpacks for foster children. Mr. Scheer’s presentation is entitled Fixing a Shattered Foster Care System: Giving Back and Leading by Example. Please come and learn how you can perhaps help some of our most vulnerable children.
  15. KFNV’s newest club—The Metro Club—on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, will be visiting the United States Botanical Gardens in Washington, DC. The Botanical Garden’s featured exhibit will be “Fierce Flora: Tales of Survival and Demise” about the angry side of the bright and beautiful plant world.  The particulars of this activity are:
  16. The KFNV Metro Club participants will meet on the Shady Grove Metro platform at 9:30 am to board the train at 9:39 am.
  17.  Upon arrival at the Judiciary Square Metro stop, the group will walk .7 miles to the Botanical Gardens.
  18. After the exploration of the Gardens, you may want to have lunch on your own or with others.
  19. Metro back with a group or on your own to Shady Grove.
  20. Please note that you must be a KFNV member to join this excursion; however, joining the KFNV is free and is open to all adult residents of King Farm. Please see below under “Contacting the KFNV” for the easy process to become a KFNV member.

Services

The KFNV continues to support King Farm residents with its community services: transportation to appointments, simple household tasks, friendly phone calls/texts, and friendly visits. Please feel free to avail yourself of all of the community services that the KFNV offers. If you are in doubt about whether a task could be performed by one of the KFNV volunteers, go ahead and fill out the service form on the KFNV website. Our Operations Team will get back to you to determine if the task is under our umbrella of tasks. Also, please note that services are open to KFNV members only; however, membership is free and an easy process. See below on how to contact the KFNV to schedule any of the services or with any questions that you may have about the services as well as how to become a KFNV member.

Contacting the KFNV

For most of the KFNV monthly events as well as all the services, membership is required; but membership is as easy as filling out an on-line or mail-in form with residency in the King Farm community being the only membership requirement.  We are a multi-generational Village; therefore, the KFNV welcomes all adult King Farm residents of all ages.

Although there is no fee to become a KFNV member, the KFNV does, however, accept and welcome donations; for these donations help defray the cost of KFNV services and events.

For information on how to register for any of the events, to request a service or a ride, to become a KFNV member or a volunteer, or to make a donation, please contact the Operations Coordinator by calling (301) 799-8104 to  leave a voicemail,  emailing the KFNV at kfnvinfo@gmail.com , or viewing the KFNV website at  www.kfnv.org.
