King Farm to Host Rockville Candidates Forum

Please join us next Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. The Assembly will host a City of Rockville candidate forum at the Community Center 300 Saddle Ridge Circle. King Farm Citizens Assembly is a large voting block and could have a lot of influence on what happens in the City if that voting power is used. To help encourage voter turnout, the Assembly have invited candidates running for City positions to come to King Farm, meet the Citizens, and answer questions regarding their general views, but specifically, subject matter that affects the King Farm community

The King Farm Citizens Assembly is independent and nonpartisan in this election and does not endorse any of the candidates. The Forum provides an opportunity for all King Farm resident voters to meet the candidates, hear their views, and how it will affect King Farm, and decide who will get your vote.
The candidate debate will be livestreamed on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/live/u0OFfg05xD0?si=N0bFa6IaFGjLi19h. Additionally, a recording of the event, will be posted on the King Farm website (www.kingfarm.org) so King Farm residents who are unable to attend can watch it later.

Administrative Resolution Amendment #4 Due Process
AR #4 Due Process Amendment – Changes have been made to this resolution to reflect changes in the Maryland Homeowners Association Act. This amendment is expected to be adopted at the October 18th, Board of Trustees regular meeting.

King Farm Neighbors Village (KFNV) started October with a discussion by the KFNV Movie Club yesterday of A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, a 2019 biographical drama about Fred Rogers. As one reviewer wrote, however, “This film is not a biopic on Mr. Rogers but a tale on how he inspired someone to get his life back on track.” The Movie Club wholeheartedly agreed with this reviewer’s assessment.
Other events filling the KFNV October calendar are the following.
- The Walking Club will continue its jaunts Monday-Thursday at 4 pm, except in the case of inclement weather. The group meets in the park across from The Fontina Grille.
- On Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 12:30-2:00 pm, Book Club members will discuss the book, The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles. As Dale Singer of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch stated, “Like the intercontinental route that it is named for, The Lincoln Highway is long and filled with intriguing detours. In the hands of a master wordsmith like Towles, it is definitely worth the trip.”
- On Thursday, October 19, 2023 from 1:00-2:30 pm, The Friends Club will meetfor lunch at Botanero Restaurant, 800 Pleasant Drive, Suite 160, Rockville, MD 20850. Please note this is a KFNV Friends Club meetup and everyone is responsible for paying for their own food.
- On Wednesday, October 25, 2023 from 10:00-11:30 am, the Coffee and Conversation group will gather for a special gathering where the topic will be: Exploring the traditions of Diwali-India’s annual Festival of Lights- and enjoying the treats associated with Diwali. The KFNV is happy to welcome some of our regular Coffee and Conversation participants to lead this discussion and thankful to them for providing the treats.
- Highlight Event: On Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 4:00-5:00 pm, Rafael Espinoza, Director of the Montgomery County State Health Insurance Assistance Program at the Jewish Council for the Aging, will present a talk: Medicare Fraud and Abuse. This event is open to the entire King Farm Community as membership in the KFNV is not required for attendance at this event. The KFNV hopes to see many members of the King Farm community at this presentation in order to learn how to avoid being a victim of fraud.
Please note that the monthly Movie Club, Book Club, Coffee and Conversation gatherings, and many highlight events are held at the King Farm Community Center, 300 Saddle Ridge Circle, Rockville, MD 20850. In case of inclement weather and if there is time to notify participants, the KFNV may opt for a Zoom presentation for any meeting or event. Finally, the KFNV offers transportation to many of its monthly events for KFNV members. Services
The KFNV continues to support King Farm residents with its community services: transportation to appointments, simple household tasks, friendly phone calls/texts, and friendly visits. This past summer, transportation services continued to be the top category for KFNV services with simple household tasks a close second.
Please feel free to avail yourself of all of the community services that the KFNV offers. If you are in doubt about whether a task could be performed by one of the KFNV volunteers, go ahead and fill out the service form on the KFNV website. Our Operations Team will get back to you to determine if the task is under our umbrella of tasks. Also, please note that services are open to KFNV members only; however, membership is free and an easy process. See below on how to contact the KFNV to schedule any of the services or with any questions that you may have about the services as well as how to become a KFNV member.
Volunteers Wanted
The KFNV is looking for “a few good volunteers” to provide community services to its members. In particular, the KFNV is looking for King Farm residents who would like to share their knowledge, talents, avocations, and vocations with the KFNV community through presentations at KFNV events. Other volunteer assistance that the KFNV is looking for are volunteers to serve on the various committees as well as to provide transportation to KFNV members. For most of the KFNV monthly events as well as the services, membership is required; but membership is as easy as filling out an on-line or mail-in form with residency in the King Farm Community being the only membership requirement. Although there is no fee to become a KFNV member, the KFNV does, however, accept and welcome donations; for these donations help defray the cost of KFNV services and events.

West Gude Drive and Watkins Pond Blvd Sidewalk Construction
- In an effort to increase pedestrian safety, the City of Rockville (City) will install pedestrian sidewalks within the public Right-of-Way along the northside of West Gude Drive from MD 355 towards Watkins Pond Boulevard.
- • Construction will occur, weather permitting, from October 2023 to May 2024 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Crews may temporarily close one lane of West Gude Drive for certain periods. Flaggers will wave traffic through the construction site.
- • The city intends to perform the work without inconveniencing you or disturbing your property. Your cooperation and patience are appreciated.

Launch Physical Therapy & Fitness Coaching is a King Farm, woman-owned small business that partners with existing charities in the DMV area through our LaunchCARES program with the joint mission to change lives through fitness & wellness. Launch holds an annual timed 5k/10k Charity Race to raise funds for our non-profit partners.
In 2023, we have chosen the non-profits So What Else and The Greater Rockville Chamber of Commerce as the recipients of the proceeds from the race.
SO WHAT ELSE has been caring for members of our community since 2009 as a registered 501(c)(3). They care for underserved families and children in DC and Maryland through offering after-school programs, spring break and summer camps, a well-stocked food & clothing pantry. So What Else is deserving of our community support and recognition!

The Rockville Antique and Classic Car Show
The Rockville Antique and Classic Car Show, a city tradition for six decades, rolls into Rockville Civic Center Park on Saturday, Oct. 14.
The show’s 60th edition will be held 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the picturesque park at 603 Edmonston Drive. Home to the historic Glenview Mansion, the hills of Rockville Civic Center Park offer a fall backdrop for collectors and enthusiasts to share memories as they stroll through vehicles from 32 car clubs, from Packard and Plymouth to Fiat and Ferrari. This year’s special display will celebrate 75 years of Lotus.
The free show – one of the oldest and the largest in the mid-Atlantic region – is open to the public and will feature a flea market, car sales area and live swing music by Blue Sky Five. Food and drink will be available for purchase. While admission is free, registration to display or sell a vehicle, and for flea market spaces, is sold out. There will be no registration on the day of the show.

KFCA is excited to share this newly established social club!
King Farm Music Jam Social Club is a group of hobby musicians who come together to play music. This group is sponsored by King Farm Citizens Assembly. Our club meetings are held on a monthly basis with sessions throughout the year.
The sessions are held at the King Farm Community Center, 300 Saddle Ridge Circle, Rockville, MD, 20850.
Guitarists, keyboardists, percussionists, and other musicians of all levels, 18 years and older, are welcome to participate.
Bring your musical instrument. It is also helpful to bring a music stand and a power strip if power is needed for your equipment. For those that sing, a microphone would be helpful.
Songs are selected from a jam songbook and generally have common chords. A phone, tablet, or computer is needed.
Also, feel free to bring song sheets for any songs with common chords you would like to share; 10 to 15 copies should do it.

RockView Program
If you have a ring camera (or other front door/doorbell camera), you can register it with the RCPD. The RockView program allows residents and business owners to voluntary register their privately owned video security camera systems with the RCPD. Registration in the RockView program does not enable law enforcement to view camera footage without an owner’s permission. However, the RockView program will allow city police to quickly identify security cameras that may have captured criminal activity when a crime is reported nearby.
