Wednesday, March 16th – Conversation with the City of Rockville Webinar Event

King Farm Citizens Assembly (KFCA) President, Barry Jackson, and the External Affairs committee is hosting a virtual event called Conversation with the City at 8:00 PM on Wednesday, March 16th, 2022, following the King Farm Board of Trustees meeting. Representatives from the City of Rockville have been invited and will be attending the meeting.

To attend, you must register in advance using the Zoom webinar registration link (https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_-weXOBFeSNSitGDod1Jlcg) which can be found on the King Farm website (https://kingfarm.org/zoom-meeting-links/).  Please submit any questions in advance using the Zoom registration form or submit your questions to the External Affairs committee at externalaffairs@kingfarm.org.

Daylight Saving Time Begins – Spring Forward

Don’t forget to change your clocks! On Sunday, March 13, 2022 at 2 a.m. local time daylight saving time will occur. On Saturday night, clocks should be set forward one hour (i.e., losing one hour) to “spring forward.”

Organic Spring Turf Application – 3/14/22

Community Landscape Services (CLS) will be on the property for spring turf fertilizer applications. The turf fertilization application is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 14th through Wednesday, March 16th (contingent upon weather).

All applications are organic (SDS sheets are included in the linked attachment) and all treated areas will be properly marked. If you have any questions regarding this service, please contact management@kingfarm.org.

Upcoming King Farm Stormwater Mgmt. Facility Maintenance Sand Filter Rehab. Project

WHAT: King Farm Stormwater Management Facility Maintenance Sand Filter Rehabilitation Project

WHEN: Monday, March 21st to Thursday, March 31st (weather permitting)

WHERE:  Piccard Dr. between Choke Cherry Rd. and Heritage Fields Ave.; Longhorn Crescent near Rolling Fields Way.

  • The City of Rockville (City’s) consultant, Apex Companies, will perform sand filter maintenance as part of the King Farm Stormwater Management Facility Maintenance Sand Filter Rehabilitation Project.
  • Work will begin the week of Monday, March 21, 2022, and last until about Thursday, March 31, 2022, weather permitting, at three sand filters in King Farm (see reverse side of this advisory). Work will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
  • Impacts could include noise and parking restrictions. On-street parking spaces may be reserved for construction equipment. No parking signs will be posted 48 hours in advance and may be in place for two weeks at a time. 
  • Project goals are to improve the facilities’ maintainability and stormwater treatment.

County & City Updates:

City of Rockville:

  • Virtual Public Hearing to Review the County’s Plans to Partially Demolish the Detention center at 1307 Seven Locks Road —The City of Rockville’s Historic District Commission (HDC) will hold a virtual public hearing to review the county’s plans to partially demolish the detention center at 1307 Seven Locks Road, in part as a first step toward potentially relocating a Montgomery County Public Schools bus depot from 16651 Crabbs Branch Way, in Derwood, among other uses. The HDC review, at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 17th, will only address and evaluate the historical significance of the demolition of no-longer-used additions at the facility. Read more here.
  • COVID-19: City Hall to Reopen March 28th, 2022 — City Hall has been closed since March 14, 2020, however, it is set to reopen Monday, March 28, 2022. The Mayor and Council will continue to hold hybrid meetings, which the public is welcome to attend virtually, until further notice. These meetings can be viewed on-demand, live streamed online, and can be watched on Rockville 11 (Comcast) and channel 11 (verizon). Visitors will now be able to use all publicly accessible entrances and exits at City Hall when it reopens Monday, March 28. Face coverings will be optional for city employees and visitors to all City of Rockville facilities beginning Tuesday, March 8. Read more here. 

Montgomery County:

  • Ride On Bus Service Will Increase Starting Sunday, March 13th — Ride On bus service will be increased by the Montgomery County Department of Transportation beginning Sunday, March 13, with the new schedule returning service to 86 percent of pre-COVID levels. Read more here. 
  • High School Students Can Become ‘Vision Zero Youth Ambassadors’ and Help Make Roadways Safer; Deadline to Apply is Monday, March 21st — The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is seeking 30 high school students to serve as ‘Vision Zero Youth Ambassadors.’ The project-based learning program teaches teens leadership skills, outreach and engagement techniques to address traffic safety needs in their community. Read more here. 
  • Commission on Veterans Affairs Honoring Vietnam War Era Veterans with Virtual Tributes as ‘National Vietnam Veterans Day’ Approaches — The Montgomery County Commission on Veterans Affairs is honoring dozens of Montgomery County Vietnam War Era veterans with detailed tributes displayed on a special website created by the commission. The tribute honors the veterans leading up to “National Vietnam War Veterans Day,” which is observed every year on March 29.  Read more here. 
  • In-person Montgomery County Council meetings resume on March 15th —The Montgomery County Council will return to in-person meetings on Tuesday, March 15, 2022. Residents will continue to have multiple ways to provide public hearing testimony: remotely; in-person at the Council Office Building in Rockville; written comments; prerecorded audio; and video. Read more here. 
King Farm Neighbors Village News (KFNV)

EVENTS:

On Thursday, March 10, 2022 from 12:30-2:00 pm, the KFNV Book Club held a discussion on the historical fiction novel, Paper Wife by Laila Ibrahim. Paper Wife tells the story of a young Chinese woman, Mei Ling, who endures the arduous voyage to the United States to enter into an arranged marriage as a “paper wife” to a widower in San Francisco.  The participants agreed with one review that stated the novel is, “a heart-wrenching story about finding strength in a new world.”  Amazon.com.

Other KFNV events scheduled for March are:

  1. Wednesday, March 16, 2022, from 10:00-11:30 am – KFNV participants will virtually gather for Coffee and Conversation where the topic will be: “Music and memories of your musical experience over the years“. You are welcome to bring visuals to support your choice.
  2. Thursday, March 24, 2022, from 4:00-5:00 pm – The KFNV will host its March highlight event entitled: “How to Protect Your Assets from Probate and Long-term Care”. Evan H. Farr, Esquire, a Certified Elder Law Attorney of the Farr Law Firm (farrlawfirm.com) will present a virtual program on asset protection. This virtual program is open to all members of the King Farm community, as KFNV membership is not required for attendance.
