King Farm Neighbors Village News (KFNV)

KING FARM NEIGHBORS VILLAGE

The King Farm Neighbors Village (KFNV) has a busy upcoming week with three events and then ends the month with a field trip to Glen Echo National Park for a guided tour.

Events

  1. On May 16, 2023 from 7-9 pm, games enthusiasts will meet for Games Night in the King Farm Community Center. As with the two other Games Night that the KFNV has hosted, all sorts of games will be available to play, such as Scrabble, Scattergories, Yahtzee, Trivial Pursuit, Uno. This event is open to all members of the King Farm community. You do not have to be a KFNV member to participate. Because space is limited due to social distancing, please reserve your spot as soon as possible.
  2. On May 17, 2023 from 10:00-11:30 pm, Coffee and Conversation participants will gather to relate memorable stories from past summer adventures or plans for future adventures.
  3. On May 18, 2023 from 1:00-2:30 pm, The KFNV Friends will meet for lunch at the Sheraton Rockville Hotel Restaurant, 902 King Farm Boulevard, Rockville, MD. Although The KFNV Friends is organizing the luncheon, participants are responsible for the costs of their own lunches. In addition, this event is open to KFNV members only. Please see below on how to easily become a member of the KFNV.
  4. Finally, the KFNV is inviting the King Farm community to a field trip on Thursday, May 25, 2023. The specifics are:

Who: All members of the King Farm community are invited. You do not have to be a member of the KFNV to participate in this event.

What: A guided walking tour of Glen Echo National Park by a Park Ranger

Where: Glen Echo National Park, 7300 MacArthur Boulevard, Glen Echo, Maryland

Time: We will gather as a group in front of the Carousel at 1:45 pm for a 2:00 pm tour. Look for the Park Ranger to find the KFNV group. If you would like to take a ride on the Carousel, please arrange to be at the Carousel by at least 1:30 pm.

Other Important Information: The walking tour will start promptly at 2:00 pm and will last approximately 45 minutes. The walking tour path is both wheelchair and walker accessible. Parking is off MacArthur Boulevard. In addition, handicap parking is specifically available with a short walking distance to the park’s entrance. In the event of inclement weather, the tour will be rescheduled. If you have any questions about the tour, please contact KFNV at kfnvinfo@gmail.com or leave a voicemail at (301) 799-8104.

The KFNV hopes that you can join us at Glen Echo Park to learn about the history of the park, including the beautiful Dentzel Carousel which celebrated its 100th birthday in 2021 and to be part of this long-planned and hoped for field-trip. (Fingers crossed!)

SAVE THE DATE!

On June 22, 2023 from 6:30-8:00 pm, the KFNV will host an international potluck at the King Farm Community Center. More details to come at the end of May, but please save the date for this first of its kind KFNV event.

Please note that the KFNV has changed its monthly Movie Club, Book Club, Coffee and Conversation gatherings, and highlight events to in-person meetings and has reserved the King Farm Community Center, 300 Saddle Ridge Circle, Rockville, MD 20850 for these events. In accordance with the policy adopted by the KFNV Board of Directors, people attending KFNV sponsored, in-person events must be vaccinated per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID recommendations. Wearing a mask is optional. In case of inclement weather and if there is time to notify participants, the KFNV may opt for a Zoom presentation for any meeting or event. Therefore, the KFNV will not be offering a hybrid option for any future events. Finally, the KFNV offers transportation to many of its monthly events for KFNV members. Please contact the Operations Coordinator at kfnvinfo@gmail.com, or leave a voicemail at (301) 799-8104 to arrange for transportation.

Services

The KFNV continues to support King Farm residents with its community services. Transportation services continue to be the top category for KFNV services; however, many requests for simple household tasks have been fulfilled. Specifically, some of the tasks that KFNV volunteers have performed are:

  1. Moved unused tiles from a condominium guest room to a garage,
  2. Watered indoor plants and checked on condo for a vacationing KFNV member,
  3. Removed and replaced light bulb in washer/dryer closet of a condo,
  4. Adjusted furnace duct in a utility room of a King Farm home, and
  5. Carried a table down a staircase to the ground floor and outside to load in a car for donation.

As you can see, the tasks have been quite varied. If you are in doubt about whether a task could be performed by one of the KFNV volunteers, go ahead and fill out the service form on the KFNV website. Our Operations Team will get back to you to determine if the task is under our umbrella of tasks.

Besides transportation and simple household tasks, the KFNV also offers friendly phone calls and texts and friendly visits. Please feel free to avail yourself of all of the community services that the KFNV offers. Please note that services are open to KFNV members only; however, membership is free and an easy process. See below on how to contact the KFNV to schedule any of the services or with any questions that you may have about the services as well as how to become a KFNV member.

Contacting the KFNV

For most of the KFNV monthly events as well as the services, membership is required; but membership is as easy as filling out an on-line or mail-in form with residency in the King Farm Community being the only membership requirement. Although there is no fee to become a KFNV member, the KFNV does, however, accept and welcome donations; for these donations help defray the cost of KFNV services and events.

For information on how to register for any of the above events, to request a service or a ride, to become a KFNV member or a volunteer, or to make a donation, please contact the Operations Coordinator by calling (301) 799-8104 to leave a voicemail, emailing the KFNV at kfnvinfo@gmail.com ,or viewing the KFNV website at www.kfnv.org

Rockville Community Roll Call: Virtual Forum on Public Safety

The City of Rockville partnered with the Rockville City Police Department (RCPD) for a virtual forum focusing on public safety. The event occurred on the evening of April 27th where residents were encouraged to share concerns and ask questions.

Click here to review a recording of the meeting.

Increased Car Break-ins – Tips from RCPD:

Keep Your Vehicle Tidy – Thieves like to window shop! Avoid leaving anything visible in the car. Almost any item that’s visible from the outside – even if you think it is worthless – could be seen as valuable to a thief.Your spare change, sunglasses, even an empty bag (a thief may think there is something inside the bag) could be valuable in the mind of a thief.

Keep valuables out of sight or store them inside your home. Purses, credit cards, and cell phones in plain view only help attract thieves.
Secure Your Vehicle – Roll your car windows up all the way and engage the car alarm, but do not depend on it as the only way to deter a thief. A car thief can break into your car and be out in about 30 seconds, fast enough that an alarm doesn’t scare most of them away.

Park Smart – If you have a garage, park your vehicle inside your garage and not on the street. Otherwise, park your vehicle in a well-lit area.
REPORT BREAK-INS TO RCPD
If you see a break-in in progress, call 911 immediately! Provide the 911 dispatcher with as much information as possible, such as:

Location – Provide an address, block number, or specific location in a parking lot.
Description of the suspect – Provide as much information as you can, i.e. sex, race, age, height, weight, hair color and length, color and length of facial hair, colors and style of clothing, and identifying marks such as tattoos and piercings.

Direction – If the suspect flees, give the direction of travel. If they flee on a bicycle or in a vehicle, describe the color, make, model, and license plate number, if it is safe to do so!

RockView Program – if you have a ring camera (or other front door/doorbell camera), you can register it with the RCPD. The RockView program allows residents and business owners to voluntary register their privately owned video security camera systems with the RCPD. Registration in the RockView program does not enable law enforcement to view camera footage without an owner’s permission. However, the RockView program will allow city police to quickly identify security cameras that may have captured criminal activity when a crime is reported nearby. For more information about the RockView program, click here.

If you have a crime or concern to report, please contact the Rockville City Police Department at:

Non-Emergency: 240-314-8900
Emergency: 9-1-1
2 W. Montgomery Ave, Rockville, Maryland 20850
