King Farm Community Shred Day

The King Farm Citizens Assembly and Lynda Knapp of Long & Foster Realtors are teaming up to host the Annual Shred Day next Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Saddle Ridge Community Center parking lot on Thompson Dairy Way. This rain/shine event will be the only Shred Day to be held this year.

King Farm residents will be provided with the opportunity to protect their identities by shredding sensitive documents. The truck-mounted shredder can accept all types of paper documents, even those with staples. After the event, all shredded material will be recycled. Residents are encouraged to start sorting through all of their old paper documents (old tax returns, credit card statements, files, etc.) and bring them to shred, free of charge! There is no limit to the number of bags you can bring. Please remove all binder clips and plastic materials from your shredding items.

Please refrain from bringing bags of common household trash. The Shred Day event is for PAPER items only. To make the lines move more quickly, residents are encouraged to place their shred items in trash bags so that it may be easier thrown into the shredder. Rockville Police to Host Public Safety King Farm Town Hall

The Rockville City Police Department will be welcoming King Farm residents for an open discussion about crime and safety within the community and City of Rockville during a Public Safety Town Hall.

Join Chief of Police Victor Brito and members of the Rockville City Police Department on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at the Saddle Ridge Community Center. This meeting will be held in-person with an option to join virtually. The Town Hall will provide residents with the opportunity to ask questions and raise their concerns.

Residents are encouraged to sign up to receive the King Farm community e-mail alerts and weekly e-mail announcements, but they are also encouraged to follow the official Rockville City Police Department’s communication channels for important information and alerts.

Alert Rockville is the official City of Rockville emergency communication system which sends emergency alerts, notifications, and updates to your devices. This system enables Rockville to provide you with critical information in a variety of situations, including public safety, severe weather, and traffic updates. In the event of an emergency, you will receive time-sensitive messages where you specify, including your home, mobile or business phones, e-mail address, text message and more. To sign up, visit https://member.everbridge.net/index/3531635643384073#/signup

The Rockville City Police Department’s RockView program allows residents and business owners to voluntary register, for free, their privately owned video security camera systems with the RCPD. Registration in the RockView program does not enable law enforcement to view camera footage without an owner’s permission. However, the RockView program will allow city police to quickly identify security cameras that may have captured criminal activity when a crime is reported nearby.

Once a camera is identified, police will contact the owner and ask if they would examine the date and time in question for potential leads in the investigation. The owner may accept or deny the request for assistance. If the owner accepts, and their equipment captured pertinent information, police would arrange a convenient way to retrieve the information. Community members can opt-out at any time. The information provided to the RCPD about camera systems will be for official police use only. Owners’ personal information will not be distributed except as required by law or court order. Information submitted may be disclosed if requested per the Maryland Public Information Act.

For more information or to register your camera, visit https://www.rockvillemd.gov/2247/Security-Camera-Registration

King Farm Neighbors Village News (KFNV)

KING FARM NEIGHBORS VILLAGE

Events

The King Farm Neighbors Village (KFNV) is in the midst of a busy April. On April 13, 2023 from 12:30 to 2:00 pm, the KFNV Book Club met to discuss the novel, Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro. Klara and the Sun, a dystopian science fiction novel, tells the story of Klara, a solar-powered AF (Artificial Friend), who is chosen by Josie, a sickly child, to be her companion. Book Club members agreed that Klara and the Sun was a provocative but apt novel to read, especially now, as Artificial Intelligence programs become more prevalent. Other activities for April are:

  1. On April 19, 2023 from 10:00 to 11:30 pm, Coffee and Conversation participants will meet to discuss: What is your idea of a perfect spring day? The topic is anticipated to bring out a discussion of participants “favorite spring things” in line with the magical and transformational season of spring;
  2. On April 20, 2023, the KFNV will host two events:

a) From 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM, The KFNV Friends will host its monthly luncheon at Farmsook Thai Kitchen, 800 King Farm Boulevard. Although The KFNV Friends is organizing the luncheon, participants are responsible for the costs of their own lunches. In addition, this event is open to KFNV members only. Please see below on how to easily become a member of the KFNV;

b) From 2:30-4:00 pm, the KFNV Movie Club will meet to review The Father, a 2020 psychological drama about a father refusing assistance as he ages. The Father, directed by Florian Zeller in his directorial debut stars Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman; and finally,

  1. On April 27, 2023 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, in the King Farm Community Center, 300 Saddle Ridge Circle, the KFNV will host its annual meeting, The KFNV: A Year of Rebounding and Reconnecting, where the KFNV Board of Directors (Board) will give an overview of its activities this past year and discuss plans for the next year. The Board invites all members of the King Farm Community to this meeting to not only learn about the KFNV, but more importantly to provide valuable ideas and input to the Board. The KFNV Board hopes to see many King Farmers at the annual meeting.

Please note that the KFNV has changed its monthly Movie Club, Book Club, Coffee and Conversation gatherings, and highlight events to in-person meetings and has reserved the King Farm Community Center, 300 Saddle Ridge Circle, Rockville, MD 20850 for these events. In accordance with the policy adopted by the KFNV Board of Directors, people attending KFNV sponsored, in-person events must be vaccinated per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID recommendations. Wearing a mask is optional. In case of inclement weather and if there is time to notify participants, the KFNV may opt for a Zoom presentation for any meeting or event. Therefore, the KFNV will not be offering a hybrid option for any future events. Finally, the KFNV offers transportation to many of its monthly events for KFNV members. Please contact the Operations Coordinator at kfnvinfo@gmail.com, or leave a voicemail at (301) 799-8104 to arrange for transportation.

Services

The KFNV community services are in full-swing in April. Transportation services continue to be the top category for KFNV services. Please feel free to avail yourself of all of the community services offered by KFNV:

  1. Simple household tasks;
  2. Friendly phone calls,
  3. Transportation to appointments, and
  4. Friendly visits.

Please note that services are open to KFNV members only; however, membership is free and an easy process. See below on how to contact the KFNV to schedule any of the services, or with any questions that you may have about the services as well as how to become a KFNV member.

Volunteers Wanted

The KFNV is looking for volunteers to assist in various KFNV activities—from serving on committees like the Events Committee, to assisting the Operations Coordinator, Communications Coordinator, or the Webmaster to providing transportation services to our members. The volunteer work is very rewarding. As one volunteer who has been providing friendly texts to a member stated:

I have been texting with H. for over 3 years now. I started our check-in phone visits in March of 2020. We exchange texts once a week. What an interesting life H. has had. It truly has been a pleasure getting to know her. S. (KFNV volunteer)

Please feel free to contact the Operations Coordinator for any questions you may have about becoming a KFNV volunteer by calling (301) 799-8104, emailing to kfnvinfo@gmail.com or viewing the KFNV website at www.kfnv.org for information as well as an on-line form to fill out to become a KFNV volunteer. The KFNV thanks you for considering becoming a KFNV volunteer.

Contacting the KFNV

For most of the KFNV monthly events as well as the services, membership is required; but membership is as easy as filling out an on-line or mail-in form with residency in the King Farm Community being the only membership requirement. Although there is no fee to become a KFNV member, the KFNV does, however, accept and welcome donations; for these donations help defray the cost of KFNV services and events.

For information on how to register for any of the above events, to request a service or a ride, to become a KFNV member or a volunteer, or to make a donation, please contact the Operations Coordinator by calling (301) 799-8104 to leave a voicemail, emailing the KFNV at kfnvinfo@gmail.com ,or viewing the KFNV website at www.kfnv.org.
