It’s Halloween night in King Farm and we want everyone to have fun and be safe while trick-or-treating this evening. Trick-or-Treating typically runs from dusk till about 9:00 p.m. If you plan to hand out candy, be sure to turn your porch lights on.

Concerns about children’s safety, whether they are out in the neighborhood or back home with bags of candy, can darken the day more quickly than a black cat. But not to worry! To make Halloween a treat, follow these safety tips.

Adults

  • Make sure the path to your door is clear, welcome trick-or-treaters with your porch lights and turn on any exterior lights.
  • Report any suspicious or criminal activity to your police department immediately by calling 301-279-8000 or 911 if an emergency.
  • Do not give homemade or unwrapped treats to children.

Motorists

Exercise extreme caution when driving a vehicle.  Be on the alert for excited youngsters, whose vision may be obscured by masks, darting out into traffic.

Trick or Treat Tips: Make sure your kids dress up safely:

  • Make sure costumes are flame retardant so children aren’t in danger near burning jack-o-lanterns.
  • Keep costumes short to prevent trips, falls, and other bumps in the night.
  • Try make-up instead of a mask. Masks can be hot and uncomfortable, and they can obstruct a child’s vision, a dangerous thing when kids are crossing streets and going up and down steps.
  • Make sure kids wear light colors or put reflective tape on their costumes.

Make trick-or-treating trouble free:

  • Create a map of a safe trick-or treating route and set a time limit for your children to “trick-or-treat”.
  • Trick-or-treaters should always be in groups so they aren’t a tempting target for real-life goblins. Parents should accompany young children.
  • Make sure older kids trick-or-treat with friends. Together, map out a safe route so you will know where they are going. Tell them to stop only at familiar homes where the outside lights are on.
  • Try to get your kids to trick-or-treat while it’s still light out. If it’s dark, make sure someone has a flashlight, add reflective tape to costumes and bags, and pick well-lighted streets.
  • Do not go inside anyone’s home. Remain on the porch at all times.
  • Do not accept rides from strangers and be sure children do not approach any vehicle, occupied or not.
  • Remind kids to keep a safe distance from moving cars.
  • Cross only at street corners, never between parked cars, and never diagonally across an intersection.
  • Look in all directions before crossing the street, and obey all traffic signals. Walk, never run, across the street, and use sidewalks, not the street, for walking.
  • Do not take shortcuts through back yards, alleys or parks.
  • Do not eat any treats until parents have inspected them.
  • Discard any homemade or unwrapped treats.
  • Teach children how to call 9-1-1 in an emergency.

Check all treats before eating:

  • It’s hard for kids to hold back from eating their treats until they get home. One way to keep trick-or-treaters from digging in while they’re still out is to feed them a meal or a snack beforehand.
  • Check out all candy in a well-lighted place when your trick-or-treater gets home.
  • What to eat? Only unopened candies and other treats that are in original wrappers. Don’t forget to inspect fruit and homemade goodies for anything suspicious. By all means remind kids not to eat everything at once or they’ll be feeling pretty ghoulish for while!
  • Halloween can be a lot of fun for parents and kids alike–if everybody remembers the tricks and treats of playing it safe.

ROCKVILLE 5K/10K RACE THIS SUNDAY IN KING FARM

This Sunday November 2, 2025 the City of Rockville will conduct the 50th Annual Rockville 10K/5K footrace, presented by the Mayor and Council of Rockville and the Department of Recreation and Parks.

King Farm Village Center, in cooperation with Regency Centers, will be hosting all pre- and postrace festivities, featuring local food vendors, as well as marking the start and finish of the race.

The course begins and ends in King Farm and travels a scenic route along Redland Boulevard (west of Grand Champion Drive), Gaither Road, Piccard Drive and West Gude Drive. In order to effectively and safely conduct this race, the above-mentioned streets in the King Farm community will be closed to traffic for a precisely monitored timeframe under the direction of the City of Rockville Police Department and volunteer course marshals as dictated by the passage of runners through the course.

These closures will be in effect from approximately 8:00 AM- 10:30 AM along the racecourse and until approximately 11:00 AM for the King Farm Village Center area for post-race festivities. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience that may still arise from these road closures.

For more information, a course map and to register, visit www.rockville10k5k.com.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation in helping to make the 2025 Rockville 10K/5K a great success.

ANNUAL PROPERTY LOT INSPECTIONS

Periodic exterior inspections of the homes/lots in King Farm are important for ensuring all property owners are adhering to the maintenance standards listed in the governing documents. These standards contribute to enhancing curb appeal and property values.

HOA Inspections USA, an independent inspection company, will take photos of homes as part of the inspection process. The photographer will be identifiable by their colored safety vest. The photographer will be using cameras to take photos of homes from common/public areas.

The photographer will NOT discuss what issues may be cited for yours or anyone else’s property.

If maintenance items are identified, a notice from HOA Inspections USA will be sent via USPS mail and by email, if on file with the management office. The initial notice will provide a compliance date to bring the noted items into compliance. An email will also be sent to homeowners from the management office. If the items are not brought into compliance, then a Final Notice/ Intent to Hold Hearing will be sent via USPS mail, email and posted to the property address door.

Email notifications will only be sent by HOAUSA for the initial notice if there is a primary email address on file and if there are violation items cited for the property.
