July-August Edition of the King Farm Chronicle

Exterior Maintenance
Management continues to receive complaints about the lack of exterior maintenance on neighboring homes: overgrown or dead/dying landscaping (trees, bushes, and grass), broken fence slats, chipping and peeling paint throughout, wood rot (around windows, dormers, decks, and porch railings), mold and mildew (on lead walks, stoops, stairs, siding throughout including below decks/above garage doors), missing components (shutters, railings, etc.), broken/damaged components (gutters, downspouts, missing mortar, vent covers, etc.), driveway maintenance (asphalt sealant/resurfacing or concrete repairs), and improperly stored items or trash on the exterior of the home (items should be properly stored including trash containers). Part of homeownership is the regular periodic maintenance of the home (interior and exterior).
Be a good neighbor by being proactive and regularly inspecting the exterior of the home so small items don’t become larger problems. By addressing maintenance early, you can lower the maintenance expenses/costs in the future.
Thank you to all the homeowners who proactively perform routine maintenance on the exterior of the home (including landscaping). We also appreciate all the homeowners who have addressed the maintenance items identified in the inspection notices, and the homeowners who are actively working to address items cited in the inspection notices.
As a reminder, there is still time to address any cited issues if you received a violation notice. There will be follow-up inspections to confirm if the work has been completed. All of the hard work will help King Farm protect and enhance the overall look of the community.

King Farm 25th Anniversary Event – Rescheduled for Sept. 9th, 2022
We are excited to announce that the King Farm 25th Anniversary event has been rescheduled for Friday, September 9th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm!
Keep an eye out for more updates in the coming weeks. We hope to see our fellow King Farmers at this wonderful celebration!
Montgomery County Updates:
Annual Montgomery County Agricultural Fair to be Held Over Nine Days from Aug. 12-20:
- The annual Montgomery County Agricultural Fair will be held over nine days for Aug. 12-20 at the Montgomery County Agricultural Center fairgrounds in Gaithersburg.
- Founded in 1949, the Montgomery County Agricultural Center has been home to the Montgomery County Fair since its creation. Sitting on 62 acres, the fair has more than 50 buildings that are filled with more than 5,000 animals every year. The fair features entertainment, food, commercial, home arts, arts and crafts exhibit.
- General admission is $15 onsite and $12 online. Children 11-and-under are free. Parking on the fairgrounds site is $10.
- Special admission days will be Senior Day on Tuesday, Aug. 16, with free admission for attendees 62 yrs. + from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Military Day on Thursday, Aug. 18, with free admission all day for active military in uniform or with a valid military ID from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

COVID-19 Remains a Community Concern:
- Montgomery County had an average of about 50 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people at this time last year. For the last several weeks, the County is averaging more than 200 reported cases per 100,000 residents. The County, like the national trend, is seeing reinfections in some residents and health officials say that natural immunity is not as strong as the immunity people get from vaccination and boosters.

New Preregistration Survey Now in Place for Monkeypox Vaccines, but in Limited Supply:
- Monkeypox continues to be an infection of growing concern in Montgomery County and around the nation. Montgomery County has a limited supply of monkeypox vaccine and has established a new preregistration survey to identify residents who are interested in receiving a vaccination and are at risk for having been exposed to monkeypox in the previous four to 14 days.

King Farm Neighbors Village News (KFNV)
SERVICES:
The King Farm Neighbor Village (KFNV) is continuing to build its community services program with:
- Transportation to appointments,
- Friendly phone calls,
- Friendly visits, and
- One new service – simple household tasks
Please feel free to avail yourself of these KFNV services, especially the new service-simple household tasks. Examples of this service range from changing light bulbs to watering plants for a vacationing KFNV member. Please note that services are open to KFNV members only; however, membership is free and an easy process. See below on how to contact the KFNV to schedule any of the services or with any questions that you may have about the services as well as how to become a KFNV member
EVENTS:
August:
- Wednesday, Aug. 17th @ 10:00 AM – The KFNV will end its August 2022 events with Coffee and Conversation on August 17th from 10:00 to 11:30 am in the King Farm Community Center and via Zoom. The topic will be: What was a favorite game or pastime you enjoyed as a child and/or your children enjoyed?
September:
The KFNV will kick off its fall schedule of events with its two monthly events:
- Thursday, September 1st @ 2:00 – KFNV Movie Club from 2:00 to 3:00 pm, where the movie, Tallulah starring Elliot Page, Allison Janney, and Tammy Blanchard, will be reviewed by the participants. Tallulah, written and directed by Sian Heder and now streaming on Netflix, tells the story of a young woman who takes a baby from a dissatisfied and irresponsible Manhattan housewife and pretends the child is her own
- Thursday, September 8th @12:30 PM – KFNV Book Club participants will discuss the novel, The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner. NPR described Ms. Penner’s novel as “a poisonously good read…surprised right up until the final paragraph.” Book Club participants are looking forward to discussing this “good read.”
Please note that the KFNV Book Club, Movie Club, and Coffee and Conversation meet in hybrid form—both in-person and virtually. Specifically, the KFNV has reserved the King Farm Community Center, 300 Saddle Ridge Circle, Rockville, MD 20850 for these in-person meetings. In accordance with the policy adopted by the KFNV Board of Directors, people attending KFNV sponsored, in-person events must be vaccinated per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID recommendations. Wearing a mask is optional. For those unable to join in-person, the KFNV will offer a Zoom option. Finally, the KFNV offers transportation to any of its monthly meetings for KFNV members. RCPD Tips – Recognize Heat Exhaustion
Knowing the symptoms of heat exhaustion ahead-of-time will allow for a quicker reaction in a confusing and dangerous situation:
- Even in a brutally hot day, someone with heat exhaustion will have cool, moist skin filled with goosebumps
- Someone with heat exhaustion may feel faint, dizzy, and may have a weak and rapid pulse
- A person with heat exhaustion may experience nausea, a headache, and muscle cramps
If you or someone you know shows these signs, stop all activity, rest in a cooler place, and drink cool water or a sports-drink.
Find medical care if these symptoms don’t improve within one hour and immediately if the exhausted person becomes confused or agitated, loses consciousness, or is unable to drink.
